"I wish that we could sail our sad days away, forever, in deep blue seas of paper mache."

In which Jack complains of Modern Scientists and Inventors.

I need a show of hands. How many of you have seen Back to the Future? The plot of these movies was brilliant, I could do without all the language though. Anyhow, I'm sure most everyone has seen or heard about them. About how Marty McFly traveled to 2015 and flew about on a hover board.

You all know what year this is, right? And how we only have three months to 2013. Which is only two years to 2015. And we all know 2000 was the start of the future. So, we've been living in the future for 12 years. 12. Most everyone who was born in the beginning of the future is now almost a teenager.

You can see where I'm going with this, can't you? The future was supposed to have light sabers, and homes on Mars, and a jet in every garage, and spaceships almost in every garage. We were supposed to be traveling the stars, meeting bow tie wearing Aliens, battling Sith lords, and hanging out with Wookees. In the least we were supposed to have hover cars, or even boards.

And Scientists have had 12 years to be working on this stuff. Okay, so you can't make a Wookee, or a Sith Lord unless you chop his arms and legs off and throw him in lava...any volunteers? BUT you CAN make light sabers, and spaceships, and homes on Mars, and HOVER BOARDS!

What have Scientists been up to for the last 12 years? Testing how easy it was for Gollum to bite off Frodo's finger? Was anyone even asking that question? Sure, we have cool cell phones and Ipads...but my skates don't hover, so really, I don't care. My watch doesn't have a Stark pop up computer in it. My glasses don't have Xray vision and little computer screens to tell me who are the enemy spies. And I STILL don't own a light saber to complete my sword collection. 12 years, wasted.

If we don't have hover boards in two years, I'm packing my bags and moving to Mars. Even if there aren't any houses there yet. Who's with me?

What do you hope we have in the future?

  1. I've seen Back to the Future. I wasn't terribly impressed, because I'm sitting there saying, "that's three years away. Really, Director?" But hey. It was a good thought. :)

I'm hoping they find a new way of giving shots, because I think I've still got another set of vaccines to go, and those needles creep me out like the plague. :)

  2. Love back to the future.
Marty looks like Luke Skywalker, and I had a dream that he tried to fix my hoverboard when I broke it trying to escape from the Romulons.

I hope for the US to still exist. My hopes really aren't that high, though.

  3. I haven't seen Back to the Future, although I am familiar with the title.

Amen, Jack!!!! These scientists need to stop making ridiculous experiments and GET BUSY!!!!

I'm with you all the way!! We'll build our own settlement on Mars- a terrific place where everyone: learns swordfighting from birth- with lightsabers- has mini-computers in their watches, carries tricorders, has their own personal VERY COOL spaceship and universal translators are built into our cell phones....

THAT'S what I 'd like to see in the future. Hello, scientists???

  4. Book me a spot on the rocket, I'm tired of waiting for my hover board, I pre-ordered that thing years ago..... ;-)

  5. Back to the Future is hilarious! But I've always had a soft spot for Michael J. Fox.

And I KNOW! Going back and watching 80's movies about the future, when we're supposed to have all this fantastic technology... and realizing... none of the supposed technology is even close to existing. I very much want Stark's interactive/holographic computer. Suh-weet!

Let me pack my bags, I'm coming with you. :)

    God bless!

  6. It's been ages since I watched Back to the Future! Great show.

I hope we have hoverboards soon - and replicators - those would be awesome!

  7. I've only seen Back to The Future 1 But I loved it. I've seen parts of two... and you're right. Where are the awesome technicalls anyway? Who cares if you can't bite off a finger?? anyone with common sense could figure that out what! For the future? I want a hover board. I'd also like a Tardis, but that won't happen, so how about an awesome police box? I'd also like to stay in a hotel on the moon. :D that be fantastic... it'd be EPIC. So thats what I want.
    God Bless

  8. In the future I have high expectations of cat-droids that speak and have a good sense of sarcasm and wit. Just no sentience.

Oh, and some form of hoverboards, like you see in Scott Westerfeld's 'Uglies' series. They sound like SO. MUCH. FUN.

  9. Bella,

If you liked the first Back to the Future I think you would love the third. I, well...personally, think it is the best of the three. But you kind of have to finish two to get what is going on at the, and end...Someone famous played in two, can't remember who.

Maybe, if the Scientists got on it, we could have TARDIS's. Maybe that is how the Time Lords got one. OKAY! Now they REALLY need to get to work!!!!!!

*Passes a banana to go with the tea.* *Smirk*

  10. Oh Jacki thanks so much for your banana. It is very scrumptiouse. An excellent source of potassium:)[is that spelled right?]Scientist! get busy. you have a TON of work ahead of you. Alons-y!
