"Be friendly, Agent Ward. You do know how to be friendly, don't you?"

Wherein Jack would say something witty and clever if she was awake.

With editing, work, school, and NaNo I've decided to give up sounding coherent during the month of November. You thought my posts were sporadic and random during my editing stages, you have no idea.

Today I am at 8,439 on my word count - an all time low for me as far as NaNo is concerned. But I'm really having fun with the book and I'm not going to dash to try and get a high word count this year. I'll just shoot for the normal 50,000 and keep myself awake by drinking more tea than all of England put together.

Actually, I haven't written anything today so I am going to keep this short so I can start working on the book.

I thought it would be fun to share some snippets, since we're already a week into NaNo and it seems kind of like tradition - at least according to the blogs I read. So, here we go.

 "What happened to Theobald?"
"I think I poisoned him with tea."

Leaves stuck in his hair, his face was blackened, smoke curled off his clothes, and he was grinning, pleased with himself.

Maddock ran out of the house, yelling like a mad man and brandishing a fire poker.

"Why are my sheepies wearing daisy wreaths?"

"Reid is a lair, a traitor, and Gwyn shouldn't trust him! Besides, his nose is too big."

 "No one hangs my knight!"

"Punch me, it'll look more convincing."
 "If you insist."
"You don't have to sound so excited about it."

"This is Iris and Galen. They're my aunt and grandfather."
"She's younger than you. And prettier."
"I'd hope so! We'd have issues if Theobald was pretty!"
"He's half pretty. It's the elf side."

"I didn't keep you alive this long so you could rush in and get yourself killed!"
"Maddock's my friend! I have to save him!"

 "Where's Kenrick?"
 "Lost in the backyard again?"

 "He's an elf."
 "I think we've established that."
 "An elf."
"You have problems with this, don't you?"

"We could be best friends, you and I," Reid said.
 "I'd rather kiss a bear."

"Theobald - your brother scares me."

"You'll have to wear silk from now on."
 "Shut up."

"I think you and Reid could be best friends, Maddock."
 "I'd rather marry a cobra."

"When I'm king my first order of business will be in beheading you."
 "I'm so glad we're friends."

 "Kenrick, what's wrong?"
"That grasshopper is going to kill me."

 "Who is she?"
 "My mortal enemy."
"You have a lot of those."

"Kenrick! Tell Julain to stop fraternizing with the enemy!"

 "You kidnapped him!"
"Kidnapped is such a strong word. More like borrowed."

 And that is all.

Don't forget, I am revealing Abolished's cover on the 14th if anyone would like to join in on the reveal. Please email me if interested.

How is everyone's NaNo going? Enjoying your books?

Quote is from Agents of SHIELD again.

 Allons-y!

  1. Sounds like a super fun book! I can't wait to read it.

I'm at about 2200 words... so... you're doing better than me! :) Hoping to actually get some writing done today, though... motivation hasn't been quite as abundant as I was hoping.

  2. It sounds like a very fun book. Thanks for sharing some snippets.

And I'm a little behind on NaNo, too, but I'm loving what I'm writing, so that's the all important thing, right?

  3. Hee hee, I love your snippets! The nose one reminded me of Tangled. "They just can't get my nose right!"
"I'd rather kiss a bear." "He could USE a good kiss!" (I've been watching Star Wars... and thinking about Star Wars... and quoting Star Wars...)
I can't wait to see the cover!
My NaNo isn't going well, I'm afraid. I think this is the single worst thing I have ever written. I keep hoping it will get better... And it probably will once I get more into the meat of the plot... Hopefully. xD
So why are his sheepies wearing daisy wreaths?

  5. Oh ... dear ... I think I like Kenrick. Getting lost in the back yard ... killer grasshoppers. I like him.

And the commontary on Reid. Rather kiss a bear, rather marry a cobra. hilarious!

I haven't really written anything today, but I reached 11,300 by the time I went to bed at 2:00 this morning ... I'm having lots of fun with my book. Keep up the good work Jack, I'm really interested in this book!

  6. Who gets to hang the knight then?
Just write, and wherever you finish will be good.

  8. Golly... you are doing better on your word count when you are taking it easy, than I do when I am firmly commited to Nano. This year I am not doing a book. This year I am finally talking the editing/rewriting business I should have done on my first story. I cannot say I am getting terribly far with it, but it is good to be working on it again.

Man, that quote.... I am going to have to watch Agents of SHIELD, that is all there is too it. Besides, I miss Coulson.

  9. Hilarious snippets!! No, those are gold. :)

NaNo is chuffing along for me. 12,500 ish. Which isn't too bad, though not "ahead." I'm happy with it. And the cover reveal sounds very exciting...

  12. Hi, Jack. I loved these snippets so much!

As for my NaNo-ing... not going so well. My novel is just... so, I have put it down for a while and am working on editing until I can get some idea of how to fix my NaNo novel. (I'm adding new revision words to my NaNo count--shh!)

    1. I missed your comment...how did I miss your comment?

I am sorry to hear your novel isn't going well. Would there be any way I might be able to help? Send some random prompts or something? I should email you.
      Revision words totally count. *Grin*

  13. Those snippets are so fun! Thanks for sharing them. I especially like number 11.

I hope your writing goes well. I don't think I'd ever be able to write 50,000 words in a month... :)

  14. Haha, Jack! I loved those snippets!! "My mortal enemy." "You have a lot of those." *grins*

And by the way, I'm one of those few who deems tea poisonous. And I heartily approve of that first snippet about Theobald, even though tea is considered some great beverage. *high-fives snippet*

Alas, I wish I could be sensible like you and actually stick to a normal NaNo, but my story is running away with me and I'm 7 days ahead of schedule. If that doesn't tell you I'm addicted... nothing will.

Oh, and I hope I'm not too late to offer Lianne Taimenlore for your cover reveal on the 14th. I don't think I have your email address, but if you want to, you can email me any details at liannetaimenlore(at)gmail(dot)com.
