"Your friend, just before she left, did she punch you in the face? Stop bleeping me!"

Wherein Jack talks about her newest idea. as promised...about time, right?

Those who have been around for awhile might remember a dragon story I wrote for NaNo - it was my project two years ago. (Don't worry, I will publish it someday so you can all read it. It is kind of next up after the Loyalty Trilogy is out, but I can't make promises of what order it will fall into.)
You probably all know something about The Broken Blade as I do mention it a good deal. (You can find more details about it on my book page.) And then there was this years NaNo which flopped on me. I was very ready to give up on that one all together but the characters refuse. They keep pestering me, demanding I write their story, but more on that another day.

As you can tell, or gather from the mentions of dragons and swords, I like Fantasy. It is my favourite genre, next to Steampunk. (I've a fascination with gears and clocks and airships and it kind of surpasses my love of dragons and elves and kings - but not swords. Which is why I have swords in both genres.) Anyways, when I began the Haphazard books I put a lot of the Fantasy ideas I have on hold. Now that I've finished The Broken Blade they've all come back. I even pulled out and dusted off some very old ideas I had - and a couple of completed manuscripts I was ready to give up on.

Right now I have seven different Fantasy ideas - well, more than that but a few aren't Fantasy, just middle ages type. But the seven I've on the top of my list have a lot in common with each other. Elves, Dragons, Swords, Kings, very mean bad guys, kingdoms falling apart...(I don't think the plot is as over used as I am making it sound...)

The other day I was thinking about all of these different ideas and thought how fun it would be if all the different kingdoms existed in the same world. And, as happens with me, the idea jumped all around and back and forth and by the time I was done I had it worked out. Well, mostly.
I still have a lot of work to do, like what I will call this world and what it will look like.

What I do have right now is knowing that Nightshade, the Kingdom in The Broken Blade books, is the main one. It was the central one and everyone in the other kingdoms started there. And I do know that, when all of the other books are out, I am going to have one final book in which important people from all the kingdoms will get together and fight a final battle. (That's a spoiler, right? There, I've given a spoiler.) I love it when Fantasy books end with a big battle - Lord of the Rings, Narnia - so I am all excited now at the thought of getting to write a whole book about a battle.

I will have more information the more I work on this idea. For right now that is all I have and I want to get to bed kind of early so I can start my first week of no longer being on holiday off right.

Quote is from Doctor Who - shocking, right? The one where we first meet Donna. (I forgot how much I like that one in spite of the spider. I loved it when Donna was with the Doctor, they were so funny together.)

 Allons-y!

  7. I knew that quote! I loved Donna and the Doctor too, they were so funny and they had a strange friendship that was a bit wild but very true and I adored them. I miss Donna :'(

I clapped liked a retarded seal when you said that you would have your characters join. I was like "WORLDS COLLIDING!!! AHHHHHH!!!!!!" *dies* I get fangirly over your books Jack. See? You are a good writer. It sounds amazing, when will it be done?

    1. Ha! I knew if anyone else loved Donna it would be you. You know a good character when you meet one. (Their friendship was wild. Donna was wild. I love Donna. I miss her too. I cried when she left...well, I teared up. But when I tear up it shows how much something gets to me.)

Awwww! You make me grin enough to loose my teeth whenever you fangirl over my books.
Um...it will be awhile before it is done. I have some of the books which are in the world, like the Loyalty ones, written now. But others are just planned and they all need to be out before the final one.

I LOVE THAT LINE!!! I quote it all the time in real life.

  8. Hi, Jack,

Love the idea of blending multiple kingdoms into one world... Kind of like the 80's Flash Gordon movie with MING and all sub serviant kingdoms, only on a much grander scale, I'm sure.

Looking forward to more news as you pull it more together. All the best for 2014! It should be a rip roaring year!

  9. FANTASY. Fantasy is AB-SO-LUTE-LY my favorite genre EVER!!! I LOOOOVE this idea! I have a series going that's sorta kinda like that. It all connects, but each book is about a different set of characters and then the final two books will be all the characters together, most likely fighting in a big battle. So...yes! I just LOVE stuff like that! It's so epic!!! So you must write these books. MUST.

And I love that episode with Donna. Of course, I love all the Donna episodes. She was so great. *sniffles*

    1. I love Fantasy too! I've loved it since first reading Narnia. It is just so much fun, and it has swords!!!! LOTS of swords!!!

I think I read about that, your idea, on your blog...I think. I hear so many wonderful ideas that I sometimes get them mixed up. But, the idea you have sounds fantastic!

Donna was wonderful. Brilliant. I loved Donna. I squealed shamelessly when the Doctor called her his best friend.

  11. Exciting. There are days that I envy authors that can squeeze all their fantasy countries into one world. I'm lucky to have most of mine in one system of worlds. (Not all, though, a few stick out like stubborn sore thumbs.) Yes, there's crossover, but I have to have Laura involved to have it happen.

Anyways I'm eager to hear more!

(Though I'm curious ... you're not trying to cram Dialcia into this world ... are you? Because I honestly don't think it would fit)

    1. I wouldn't stick Dialica into the world I am creating without asking you first, since Dialcia isn't just my creation. No, I'm not.

    2. I doubted you would, but Worth of a King does fall into your blanket description of dragons, elves, kingdoms falling apart and all that, so I had my worries.

I admit that I do have it in my world system, but since I also have the normal world and Narnia in my world system, that's not saying much.
